Hey Lance, can we have another column where all the boat pages are listed to show the address for our museum boat facebook page?
That would be another source of advertising and for some of us, it is a lot easier to update and add to the facebook page than to get whomever runs the website to update their page. Oh yeah, be nice to Emily and it will pay off in the next few days. LOL

Sure thing Bill.  I'll work on that.  I don't know of many museum boats that have pages.  Let's see...Marlin, Batfish, Razorback, and a couple others.  I'll be hunting for them.

Well, we'll just have to show them how a facebook page can be a good advertisement for their boat. There is a definate advantage to setting one up as a fan page over a group page.

And I have been making a tinyurl.com   address so that those who can't copy and paste have something shorter to type in.
For instance

takes you to the facebook page for the Marlin and the Hazard.
And there are a couple of these on line. I accidently got to a different one when doing a shorter url for the Freedom Park website the city runs.  So it is
http://tiny.cc/freedompark   
Something else I have been doing that seems to be helping those looking for the park is type in Freedom Park, Omaha, Ne. Then go through all the webpages and Google Maps that come up and send in corrections and updates to the various pages. Plus write reviews talking about the park.  At least that way, people bringing up one of those websites will get the straight skinny.

There isn't a page specifically for Cobia, but the (Wisconsin Maritime) museum has one. And since I'm mostly in charge of that page there is far more Cobia info than museum info.

Karen, went to Facebook and typed in Wisconsin Maritime and Wicsonsin Maritime Museum and couldn't get anything to come up.
I did find a website for it and found you listed as the Assistant Education/Submarine Curator, but no webmaster listed for the page.
Let me know how to find the Facebook Page for it and if you haven't done one yet for either the boat or the Museum, please set it up as a fan page as then we can link back and forth to it and it has more features that can be used than a group page does. One of the things I am going to be exploring is the setting up of a budget to advertise on Facebook. Several major corporations are now turning to Facebook as a cheaper and farther reaching advertising medium. You can budget in a set amount per day or month and the ads show until you reach that amount.
I like your website. I'll steal some of your ideas to try and talk the City of Omaha into using on theirs.
That's one of the biggest advantages of Facebook, I can go in, add, change, discuss live with others and don't have to wait for someone else to get it done.

We are having an interesting discussion about moving to ways of looking for donators of large sums of money for museum boats. Those who set up estate giving, annunities, trust funds, insurance giving. We also talk about the USSVCF and how it can provide matching funds for USSVI bases who are involved with helping out a museum boat. Any who might have questions about any of this, please post here and we'll try and answer them. I know some of you have had problems with some subvets, but we are slowly getting them to understand that they and there bases can best help by just helping as needed and in turn the bases can provide some funds to help the museum boat.

One thing that is good (or somewhat bad) about creating a fan page on Facebook is the little affidavit that you must agree to upon creation.  It basically says that you have the authority to create the fan page you are about to create.  That's why I haven't created a fan page yet for the USS Drum.  I feel like I might get into some kind of trouble if I did so.

Karen, the reason I didn't find it is that the word Maiotowoc is first in the title although once it is up, it does Say Wisconsin Maritime Museum. But I have it marked now and put it as favorite on three pages I do.

Lance, if you have the ok, to do a website for the Drum, can't imagine anyone griping about you doing a fanpage.  Just don't put down all the top secret stuff. LOL
It is a really good recruiting tool to get people who surf the web to know about the museum boats. Also, you can update the page faster than most websites get updated and if you have the facebook url in your website front page, you'll get people going there. Remember, 350,000,000 potential visitors is a lot to hook up to.

If you go to Mobile Bay Base web site I belive we have a button to our face book page. I guess one day I will have to break down and get on face book.
