K-77 status and pics of the interior

All,
I was given word today that the K-77 is going to be scrapped, she is to far gone to save her

The Army/Navy dive team did an awesome job to get her back on the surface but sadly it was too late for her, when they left they had to leave 4 pontoons/barges behind to hold her stern up to keep it from sinking once more. Earlier this week a couple of the remaining vol's found a couple of feet of water in the stern that the Navy had not removed and it raised the stern 1' when she was finally dewatered.

Here are some pics of the interior of the K-77 and I have been given permission to post them by the man who took them (a shipmate of my uncle on USS Sea Owl and then with me on USS Torsk)

Man, what a mess.  How long was she down there?

about 17 months if memory serves correctly, and she sank in brakish water and not salt water. It was a true dirty job to get her on the surface once more and sadly it is too later for her unless someone with DEEEP pockets wants to try to save her.

I don't believe it has *officially* been stated that the K-77 will be scrapped, but that's what the word all around is.

Lance is absolutely correct, I have yet to hear any deffinate word come from the museum curator himself but it isn't looking good at all for the K-77

I was in Providence, R.I. in 1992 on board my uncle's replica of the Nina and when we pulled anchor I had this nasty, black sludge all over my hands from the anchor and anchor line.  That has to be one of the stinkiest, dirtiest harbors that I've ever been in.  Couple that with the fact that the Russins probably didn't use the best, weather-resistant materials on their boat and that's why this thing looks as bad as it does.  Silversides was submerged and she is still a museum. They've even got some of the original electronics working.

not yet Lance, I will email Ken and see what the status is of the K-77.

No I haven't recieved any word on what the status if of the K77, will have to call and find out

High pressure hose might do the trick in that FTR.  I suspect she will end up in the scrap mill.
