Was scanning on-line photos from the NHC of fleetsubs... and discovered a shot of CERO's wardroom (SS 225, vs. COD's 224) that shows curtain rings running along our thinner gage brass rods... so I have to redo our curtains to include grommets to accept rings... you learn something new every day.

I'm not surprised that they used curtain rings.  It's just a glorified curtain.  I doubt that the Navy put thousands of dollars of research into a doorway covering.  If anything, they may have had a fire resistant criteria for the material and the color had to be 'blah'.  Other than that, the world's best scroungers probably hung whatever they could get their hands on.  Our goat locker has a set of navy blue curtains with clear plastic shower curtain rings.  It's farby, but it gives you an idea.  I would like to see curtains of some kind installed for each officer room, even if we do have wooden doors in the way.

On a car hunter green is fine but on a submarine???? I donna know about that one, kinda like painting her pink... ya kinda have to be loopie :idiot2:

No kidding guys, the folks at ELECTRIC BOAT, with NAVY sanction, determined their boats would be decorated with Hunter Green upholstery and accent colors with seaform green on the upper walls...  it was the plain stepsister boats from Portsmouth that were plain white!!!   

By late 1944 a group of industrial psychologists on contract to the Navy determined that the boats could be made more comforting to the crews by chaning the colors from white to seafoam green, yellow, etc. and using a mixture of incandescent and fluorescent lights in direct and indirect fixtures. No shit.

The accent colors for machinery, waterways, and other fixtures were brick red and Hunter green.  IF you think that is bad, just see what they did aboard subs in the late 50s and 1960s, when everything had to be covered in shitty woodgrain formica!!!  It was falling off the bulkheads in droves aboard TROUT, revealing the wonderful original finish...
