Done deal!
« on: June 06, 2008, 07:06:37 PM »
Just an update on the Triple Nickel (nifty nickname).  I just heard back from a very reliable source that her becoming a submarine museum at the San Diego Maritime Museum is basically a done deal.  They are only awaiting final approval on docking plans.

Welcome to the club Dolphin!

NAVSEA Washington, DC – June 23, 2008 – The Navy has determined that the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s application for the permanent donation of ex-DOLPHIN (AGSS 555) has met the minimum requirements for donation as a museum and memorial. The Navy intends to donate and transfer ex-DOLPHIN to the Maritime Museum of San Diego by September 2008.

Found another article, although kind of late, but here it is!

http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-7971889/Navy-research-submarine-to-dock.html

exerpt:
"...Museum officials passed another regulatory hurdle this month when the San Diego Unified Port District approved berthing the Navy sub at the museum on site the Embarcadero along North Harbor Drive...Once the vessel obtains a final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the submarine will join the rest of the museum's seven ships, including a Russian Foxtrot class submarine, and will be moored alongside the ferryboat Berkeley, Ashley says... "

More great news to come!
KEEP WATCHING.
