Sad update on the USS Torsk (SS 423)
« on: May 01, 2014, 05:33:58 PM »
All,

Due to circumstances beyond the Torsk Volunteer Associations control, There has been a "temporary" stand down of the Volunteers and there will be no questions answered at this time, NO there has been NO fire or flood and yes currently she is floating well however TVA's presence will not be onboard until further notice.

Hopefully very soon TVA will walk onboard her once more and continue to bring her back to life and show future generations what our WWII Submariners went through, until then we from the long distance crew wait and hope that this will be over.

With a heavy heart I have to do this report, I could not let Evil Tracey make this report..

You can't drop that kind of bomb and then say no questions?  WHAT is going on there?

Jim,

I am not authorized at this moment to make any comments regarding TVA's status other than some of the volunteers have removed some of their personal tools and some of their personal effects.

There is nothing else that I can discuss at this time, other than this is now a waiting game with the museum

All,

Please remember that the Torsk Volunteer Association has been onboard now for over 17 years and that they have brought her from a dead hull looking like a dead hull to the incredible museum submarine that she is, I am reminded tonight of Bill Lee (USS Scorpion Vet) when he had a falling out with his museum, it took them a while to understand what all he had done for them for FREE..  So for right now lets set back and watch what happens regarding this situation just like when Bill asked us to do way back when.

Again with sadness in my heart, I also am now setting back and waiting what happens and I can only hope that this situation will be done with soon

jim,

The only thing that I am authorized to say or discuss is that currently Torsk Volunteer Association is not onboard the USS Torsk at this time and that 15 Volunteers have picked up some of their personal tools and belongings.

Whatever the rift is, I hope it can be resolved quickly and to everyone's satisfaction. These boats would not exist without the volunteers.

Have not seen anything on the forum about the conflict at the Torsk for some time. Has anything
New happened to resolve the issue?

Jim and all,

For the first time in 17 years the Torsk Volunteer Association will not be onboard working and lovingly restoring her this upcoming first week of October... I am hopefull that things are going to change in the very near future regarding TVA, knowing that it does take about a month or so to get ready for all of the volunteers showing up from around the country for a work weekend and also knowing that the crew has not been onboard since April of this year it does not suprise me or shock me because sadly not only is the whole crew losing out on restoring her, the City of Baltimore and the visitors from around the world are losing out.. Maybe just Maybe Mr Rowsom will understand how much TVA does, he can blame all of this mess on Dan Sutton HOWEVER Mr Rowsom has been with BMM/HSIB for over 20 years now and he knows what is going on. OOOOPS forgot to mention that HSIB is ALSO LOSING money from TVA not being onboard for the first weekend of October.. Guess he FORGOT that TVA does get monetary donations from various arena's that benifit HSIB.... OOOOOPS

There have been discussions with the Museum Director, questions raised, some answered and others not yet answered.

Historic Ships in Baltimore just put Constellation into drydock, and their focus is there at the moment. Not sure when we will get clarification on the remaining items or if/when we'll be back aboard.
