I never knew that.  Any idea why they picked April 11th?  Was this the day that they commissioned the Holland Sub?

Don't worry, I didn't know about this day either until a couple of months ago.

Maybe the purchase date was April, but the formal ceremony wasn't until October?  Since it was a new weapon, the government probably wanted to make sure that it wasn't a lemon before flying Old Glory from the flag mast.

I didn't say the Holland was commissioned on April 11th, I just said the Navy acquired her on April 11th.  Sub sailors are calling National Submarine Day "Submarine Birthday" day.
