October 15 - School of the Boat - history question

   This may surprise a few of you - so let's try something a bit different.

What submarine was the first to successful launch a guide missile off it's deck?  I'll need the name of the boat, the date of the launch and the type of missile that was launched.

As I said this may be a bit of a surprise for many people.

Hmm. I'll take a guess: SSG-348 USS Cusk launched a Loon guided missile from its deck on February 12, 1947. The Loon was an American-built version of the German V-1.

Yes looking back at the event in 1947 - Cusk was considered the original "Boomer" far before the keel was laid for the first USSBN.  To think that an old Fleet-type submarine would be launching missiles.
