I was just wondering if anyone else had a copy of this. I got mine a coupe weeks ago for $20, it is very informative I keep learning things. The only offset is that it is the first book in the series so it is only general info.

Yes, I donated the hard copies to Rick back in January. I still have my original CD's.

The Historical Naval Ships Association has all sorts of manuals online, including radios, modern training manuals, and a 1943 U-Boat Commander's Handbook...

I was hunting through the Fleet Sub manual trying to get a close-up schematic of the escape chamber in the bow torpedo room, but no luck.

Hmmmm... do you see that handle at the bottom of the screen? I bet that's what's in the way of getting the hatch to open. It probably has a companion lever in the torpedo room to move it out of the way. That's why I was looking for instructions on how to use the escape chamber, so I could find a note somewhere that said "btw, move handle J before opening lower hatch".

The lowest "handle" in Lance's excellent photo actually is a latch that holds the lower hatch open. On the Silversides, and I imagine other boats, there is a cable with knobs that attaches to the eyehole on the left side of that latch. Basically, you pull on the cable, it releases the latch and you can pull the hatch shut so someone else can dog it with those two handles.

Is it possible for that latch to get in the way if you try to open the lower hatch?

Actually there is not. I was looking at the escape hatch on the Razorback last monday. I was able to look at both sides of the hatch. I do not see any way for any of the latches to block this hatch.
