WW II fleet sub compass - you need two of these!
« on: March 06, 2011, 06:02:24 PM »
These things pop up on ebay on occasion... there were two aboard every US fleet sub in WWII and into the 1950s. One in the control room above the steering station and the other in the conning tower above the helm (usually starboard).  Some had compensator balls, some didn't and I don't know what the rhyme or reason was... based on photos.  The top link (black compass) is almost ready to mount (you need to fabricate the mount if it is not in place aboard your boat).

First one never sold.  $200 is probably too much.  Will have to keep an eye on it to see if it pops up again.
