Commisary lists or allocations?
« on: June 07, 2012, 10:44:15 AM »
Folks,

Does anyone have any commissary lists, or allocations for a sub?  I.e. a list of the food that was aboard for a typical WW II patrol?

I've been looking for such lists for years. I'd appreciate copies, too, Tom or Rich!

Any chance you could also send them to the Torsk Volunteers?

THANKS!

Ok everyone, here is the first. It is from may 1945 when Drum was in Hunters Point and so was the Pampinito. Pamp transfred food to the Drum, Drum was the boat feeding all boats in the yard at the time. I will get more soon, a bit busy this week.

I scanned these lists (thanks a lot TOM!)... but remeber this is probably the equivalent of your neighbor coming over and telling you his refrigerator broke and he wants to give you the food from it to save it from spoiling... it's not a complete list of food for a war patrol by any means.  The reefer on fleet subs held more than a ton and a half of frozen meat... that means about 700-1,200 lbs of beef, 600 lbs of pork, and 700-900 lbs of chicken!  Our cook said he prepared 40 lbs of meat for a meal... with about 80-90 men, that is half a pound each.
